The subject

About the riding

Skyline Bike Park sits above the town centre, reached by the Skyline Gondola, with a network of gravity trails dropping through the trees back towards the base. It is one of the country's better known bike parks and draws riders doing repeat laps on the lift.

Across the lake, Seven Mile offers a more low-key network of cross-country and flow trails through forest, popular with locals and often mentioned as a good starting point for less experienced riders. Further out, the Ben Lomond ridge line is a longer, more exposed route that climbs out of town onto open tussock before dropping back down, a different kind of ride from the lift-served park laps.

Questions

Asked a lot

Do you need a lift pass for Skyline?Skyline Bike Park is accessed by the Skyline Gondola, so riders typically buy a gondola or bike park pass to get up the hill.
Is Seven Mile good for beginners?Several riders in these films describe Seven Mile as a gentler, more forgiving network than the bike park, making it a common recommendation for those newer to the sport.
Is the Ben Lomond ridge trail a lift-served ride? No, it is a longer route involving a climb onto the ridge before the descent back towards Queenstown, unlike the shuttle or gondola laps at Skyline.
