Queenstown packs a gondola-served bike park, a quieter forest network
The reel
The subject
Skyline Bike Park sits above the town centre, reached by the Skyline Gondola, with a network of gravity trails dropping through the trees back towards the base. It is one of the country's better known bike parks and draws riders doing repeat laps on the lift.
Across the lake, Seven Mile offers a more low-key network of cross-country and flow trails through forest, popular with locals and often mentioned as a good starting point for less experienced riders. Further out, the Ben Lomond ridge line is a longer, more exposed route that climbs out of town onto open tussock before dropping back down, a different kind of ride from the lift-served park laps.
Worth knowing
Gondola-access gravity park above Queenstown
Forest trail network across the lake from town
Longer alpine descent above the town
Gondola lift at Skyline, trailhead riding at Seven Mile and Ben Lomond
